The Red Cross Blood Bank, Eluru, functions 24 hours a day, collecting blood with the support of voluntary blood donors. Using modern technological equipment, the Blood Bank conducts all essential tests (Blood grouping, Malaria parasite, VDRL, ELISA Screening; HIV, HCV, HbsAg etc.) to ensure the highest safety standards and supplies safe blood to Patients in Eluru and neighboring Districts, thereby saving countless lives.
The blood collected from donors is separated into different components using advanced equipment and modern technology such as centrifuges, plasma expressers, and component extractors etc. By completely removing white blood cells from red cells, transfusion reactions in patients are significantly reduced, ensuring safer and more effective treatment.
Packed Red Blood Cells (PRBC)
Leucodepleted PRBC
Plasma (FFP)
Random Donor Platelets (RDP)
Whole Blood
Platelet Apheresis (SDP)
With the help of an advanced Apheresis Machine, platelets are collected from a donor within just 90 minutes. These platelets are then provided to patients whose platelet count has dropped due to viral fevers and related conditions. Through this process, a patient's platelet count can increase by approximately 30,000 to 60,000, helping to save precious lives.
We are using filter bags to prepare Leucodepleted Packed Red Blood Cells (PRBCs). Each donor is tested with a Complete Blood Picture (CBP), and after preparation, every bag is further tested for Leukocyte count to ensure quality. These Leucodepleted PRBC units are primarily used for Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Patients, and are also highly beneficial for cancer patients undergoing Chemotherapy and for those requiring multiple transfusions.
The Indian Red Cross Society, Eluru District Branch has been running a Thalassemia Blood Transfusion Centre since 2018, to support children and patients suffering from Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anemia & Hemophilia. Patients affected by these lifelong blood disorders require regular blood transfusions to survive and maintain their health. The Centre provides these transfusions in a safe, hygienic, and compassionate environment, with blood components supplied from the Red Cross Blood Centre.
The following services are provided completely free of cost to support Thalassemia and Sickle Cell patients:
* All these services are offered with compassion to ensure the well-being of patients and to ease the financial and emotional burden on their families
* By offering continuous care and timely transfusions, the Centre has been a lifeline for Thalassemia patients, reducing complications and improving their quality of life.
This humanitarian service is sustained with the generous support of voluntary blood donors, philanthropists, and well-wishers.
